The National Universities Commission (NUC) is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and was established in 1962. The main functions of the Commission are outlined as follows: Granting approval for all academic programmes run in Nigerian universities, granting approval for the establishment of all higher educational institutions offering degree programmes in Nigerian universities, ensure quality assurance of all academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities and work as a channel for all external support to the Nigerian universities. The Commission has eight Departments: the Department of Academic Standards, the Department of Inspection and Monitoring, the Department of Management Support Services, the Department of Students Support Services, the Department of Research and Innovations, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Department of Finance and the Executive Secretary's Office. The website provide information about these departments and lists the Nigerian universities including their web presence.
