In heutigen Gesellschaftsformen wird Literalität als Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme sowohl im beruflichen als auch im privaten Bereich des täglichen Lebens betrachtet. Sie gilt als Menschenrecht, als Instrument der persönlichen Partizipation (empowerment). Auf internationaler Ebene besteht Konsens darüber, dass Literalität über Chancen entscheidet und den Zugang zu den heutigen Informationsgesellschaften eröffnet. Dennoch sind viele Erwachsene in Industrie- und Entwicklungsländern aufgrund ihres unzureichenden Bildungshintergrunds gesellschaftlich marginalisiert. Der vorliegende Bericht ist Teil des vom BMBF finanzierten und vom DIE durchgeführten Projekts "Alphabetisierung/Grundbildung - State of the Art aus historischer und systematischer Perspektive im Hinblick auf Transfermöglichkeiten". Er beschreibt ein Good-Practice-Beispiel aus Spanien. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Konzept des Dialogic Learning, das im Stadtteilzentrum La Verneda-Sant Martí in Barcelona eingeführt und umgesetzt wurde. Die Intention liegt darin, das Konzept des Dialogic Learning als einen innovativen Ansatz im Bereich der Erwachsenenalphabetisierung anzuerkennen. Die erfolgreiche Umsetzung der partizipativen und auf Inklusion ausgerichteten Methoden dieses Konzepts dient als bemerkenswertes und übertragbares Beispiel, das mit der kulturellen, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Heterogenität der heutigen Gesellschaften korrespondiert. Dementsprechend richtet sich der Blick nicht vorrangig auf Quoten oder veröffentlichte Daten zur Zahl erwachsener Analphabeten in Spanien, es wird vielmehr ein aus diesem Land stammendes herausragendes innovatives Konzept vorgestellt.

In today's societies literacy is regarded as the prerequisite for participating in the professional and private spheres of everyday life. It is regarded as a human right, a tool for personal empowerment and a tool to influence the behaviour of individuals, families and communities. Despite the international consensus that literacy skills determine opportunities and provide access to today's information-based societies, many adults in both industrialized and developing countries find themselves on the margins of society due to their insufficient educational background. The report from Spain is part of a research project entitled, Literacy/Basic Education - State of the Art from a historical and systematic perspective in terms of transferability, financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and research (BMBF) in Germany and conducted by the German Institute for Adult Education - Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning (DIE). The following report depicts an example of a good practice from Spain. Ist focus is set on the concept of Dialogic Learning as introduced and realised in the community centre La Verneda Sant Martí in Barcelona. Ist intention is to recognize the concept of dialogic learning as an alternative approach for teaching literacy to adults. The successful implementation of inclusionary and participative practices of this concept serves as one noteworthy and transferable example that corresponds with the cultural, social and economic heterogeneity of today's societies. Accordingly, the focus of this report is not set on the current situation of literacy levels or published data on the number of illiterate adults in Spain, but rather on the depiction of an outstanding innovative concept that derives from this country.
